Transition Year

Welcome

FÁILTE CHUIG CLÁR NA HIDIRBHLIANA

An Tasc - Forás pearsanta, sósialta, oideachasúil agus gairmiúil na mac léinn a chur chun tosaigh agus iad a ullmhú mar bhaill neamhspleácha, freagracha den tsochaí ina mbeidh siad páirteach.

The Transition Year Programme is a unique, one-year programme that promotes the personal, social, vocational and educational development of students and prepares them for their role as autonomous, participative and responsible members of society (Transition Year Guidelines, 1994, Department of Education). TY provides a bridge to enable students to make the transition from the more dependent type of learning associated with Junior Cycle to the more independent learning environment associated with Senior Cycle. It encourages the development of a wide range of transferable critical thinking and creative problem solving skills.

Distance Learning in Transition Year

In response to the challenging educational setting we find ourselves in as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak, we have put together a dedicated page to support coordinators and teachers of Transition Year in continuing to provide a TY programme for their students. This page provides sample timetables, suggested modules of work, tips for communicating with students, tips for working effectively as a cor TY team and more. Here's the link if you want to find out more.

Presenting your TY Programme to Parents

Around this time of year, many schools host an information evening for parents of Third-year students in preparation for next year's Transition Year. These events are most likely happening through some online video-conferencing software at the minute - such as Zoom, MS Teams or Google Hangouts. In the video below you'll find some really useful pointers as to the type of information you might present at such events. If you have any questions please email us at ty@pdst.ie.

Preparing for End-of-Year Celebratrion

While it may seem a long way away, now might be a good time to start planning for the end-of-year celebration of TY. At the moment we cannot predict if it will be possible to have students and their families attend the celebration in the usual way or if the celebration will need to be virtual in nature. Either way, with this in mind and with Term 1 complete, now might be a good time to get students to reflect on their work from Term 1, to identify work of which they are particularly proud and to record some overview of their experience. These student pieces could form an integral part of the end-of-year celebration - whatever form it takes - and also motivate students in the coming days and weeks.

We have a short video presentation outlining some considerations around this.

An Gaeilge san Idirbhliain

Sa seimineár gréasáin seo díríodh isteach ar an bpleanáil fadthéarmach agus gearrthéarmach atá le déanamh ag múinteoirí agus iad ag pleanáil do mhodúil nó plean Gaeilge a scríobh do rang Idirbhliana.
