Safer Internet Day 2020

Webwise Ireland SID2020 took place on Tuesday February 11 at Twitter Dublin HQ with hundreds in attendance, including PDST TIE, NIPT, NAPD DL, DES, the Teaching Council of Ireland and Media Literacy Ireland. Others came from the worlds of media, education, digital strategies, social media and representation of youth with a panel of young people, sharing their personal insights and experiences which really resonated with all there.

Guests were welcomed at the outset by Jane McGarrigle of @Webwise_Ireland and we then heard opening remarks from Sinéad McSweeney, VP Public Policy Twitter EMEA, and MD Twitter Ireland, followed by PDST National Director, Ciara O'Donnell and Martina Chapman, National Coordinator Media Literacy Ireland.

A panel of expert guests, including Roe McDermott - @roemcdermott, Gavin Sheridan - @gavinsblog, Ronan Costello - @Ronan_Costello and Brian O'Neill - @BONeillTUDublin provided invaluable insights and we also heard from an inspirational and motivational youth panel outlining their personal experiences on navigating the challenging digital landscape in the world of 21st Century education.

Safer Internet Day (SID) is an EU wide initiative to promote a safer internet for all users, especially young people. It is promoted in Ireland by the PDST Technology in Education and Webwise. The Theme for Safer Internet Day was “Together for a Better Internet“ and registrations this year far exceeded expectations.  Visit Webwise Ireland for more details and great ideas to get involved.
