LCA - Leaving Cert Applied



The Leaving Certificate Applied is a two year Leaving Certificate available to students who wish to follow a practical programme with a strong practical and vocational emphasis.  It is one of three Leaving Certificate options offered by the Department of Education and Skills. 




Documents providing guidance and information for Leaving Certificate Applied 2020 / 2021 were recently published by the Department of Education and Skills. These documents outline very important information in relation to mediating curriculum and changes to assessment for 2020/2021. The documents offer key information relating to assessment arrangements, student tasks, planning for work experience, final examinations and much more.  Full details can be found at



Four revised LCA module descriptors were due to be introduced in September 2020 (English and Communications, Mathematical Applications, Introduction to Information and Communication Technology, and Information and Communication Technology – Specialism).


The introduction of these revised module descriptors has been deferred until September 2021The Department of Education and Skills has advised that teachers / tutors should continue to teach the original module descriptors for these subjects (DES, July 2020 p. 5)
