One Day Seminar

PDST are running a series of one-day seminars for primary school principals during the first term of the 2018/2019 school year.  The seminars are for primary school principals leading re-engagement with School Self-Evaluation (SSE) in their schools.

The seminars aims:

  • To facilitate reflection on individual school experiences of SSE

  • To provide participants with an opportunity to share school improvement practice

  • To provide participants with a concise overview of School Self-Evaluation.

  • To explore future practical school improvement, using the SSE process

Feedback from 2017/2018 participants:

“It was very helpful that seminar gave the participants air time to talk about their own school experiences. Opportunities to discuss and brainstorm with colleagues is always valuable. Hearing the experiences of others is always both enlightening (re positives) and reassuring (re negatives). Many thanks for the help and support.”

“This was a very useful and beneficial course with plenty of opportunities for discussion and plenty of concrete, practical ideas and resources. Feel much better about SSE after this course.”

“Very informative and motivational. Potentially complex areas nicely simplified. The seminar led us seamlessly through the process, demystifying, supporting, encouraging. Excellent.”

This is a full day seminar (9.15am to 3.30pm) and subcover is provided for teaching principals

One Day Seminars are offered to school leaders. The purpose of the ‘One Day Seminar’ is to address current areas of concern, such as SSE, as raised by school leaders in the feedback evaluations from our core leadership programmes. The outline below serves as an insight into the various topics addressed at these seminars over the past two academic years. Substitute cover is provided by the DES for the seminars for teaching principals and it is anticipated that this will continue for future seminars of this nature to ensure maximum access for school principals. Our  seminars are also offered through the medium of the Irish language in Gaeltacht areas and in a number of central locations.
