The Professional Development Service for Teachers is delighted to announce the launch of our new online course for Civic Social and Political Education (CSPE) available from September 19th on TeacherCPD.ie

 

This 2 - 3 hour online course is an introduction to, and an overview of the Junior Cycle Civic, Social and Political Education (CSPE) course.

 

The online course focuses on:

  • the key elements of subject knowledge
  • the use of active learning methodologies in order to enable the development of skills, attitudes and dispositions
  • the importance of taking action and acting responsibly

 

The online course concludes with an overview of the three assessment instruments used in CSPE: the Report on an Action Project (RAP), the Course Work Assessment Book (CWAB), both worth 60% of the marks awarded and the written examination paper, worth 40% of the marks.

About the course

Learning Outcomes

Participants completing this module will be enabled to:

·      state the aims of Civic, Social and Political Education

·      explain the course Concepts and Strands of learning

·      understand the relevance of active learning methodologies and the development of key skills

·      explore a number of teaching and learning resources

·      explain what an Action is and describe some actual examples of Actions undertaken

·      List and describe the three assessment instruments used in Civic, Social and Political Education: the Report on an Action Project (RAP), the Course Work Assessment Booklet (CWAB) and the Written Examination.
